Starting out with just a trailor tanker stored in a shed at the caravan park Tomahawk Volunteer Brigade has been a valued asset to the community for a number of years and after the station was built by the local community we have seen the brigade contribute a much needed assest and resource to the local area.
The brigade has been a part of several major fires around the state including sending a crew to King to assist with a fire that had burnt through more than 50% of the island.
Today the brigade has one vehicle a 1310 international medium tanker
and whilst the vehicle is starting to show signs of its age and is becoming less practicle as a fire fighting appliance within todays society it has serve the community and the brigade for the last few years.
Our brigade is made up of members from the local community both fulltime residents and holiday makers that help when they can. Over the last couple of years we have seen an increase in the number calls to inicdents and a decrease in numbers of active firefighters.
Training is provided through the Tasmania Fire Service via it's Learning and Developement Division. The training is conducted at no cost to the participaint and is recognised around Australia.
Once you achieve a basic level of training you are provided with a uniform and fire fighting personal protective equipment and you are able to help at incidents under supervision of crew leaders and senior firefighters.
